New Tyre Safety & Performance Indicators

The tyre industry has recently rolled out a new customer information program that will see all replacement tyres supplied with key performance and safety labels.

Focussing on three main areas which include fuel efficiency, wet grip and external rolling noise the new labelling will be a legal requirement as of the 1st of November 2012.

The three classes will go some way to help customers make an informed decision about their tyre purchase, allowing them to see quickly and clearly the benefits of investing in a higher class tyre.

But what do the different classes actually mean and how much do they really affect the vehicles performance?

When it comes to ensuring you get the most from your tyres, specialists have been preaching about optimum inflation levels for years. As it is scientifically proven that operating tyres either under or over inflated can have a significant affect on a cars efficiency causing motorists to fill up more often and wear through tyres quicker.

These new performance labels actually provide a rating of a tyres efficiency, highlighting through a 7 step sliding scale (A to G), that a class A tyre can reduce your overall fuel consumption by up to 7.5% (depending on your driving style and other external factors). Which when spread over the life of a tyre can make a premium choice a much more shrewd purchase and a budget tyre not as cheap as first thought.

It is not just the efficiency of the tyre that is rated on these new information labels, but also the tyres ability to affect breaking distances. For example the same class A tyre that has been proven to help reduce the vehicles overall fuel consumption can also reduce breaking distances by up to 30% when compared to a Class G tyre. This means that a typical passenger car travelling at 80kmp/h could stop 18m shorter than the same car riding on class G tyres.

The final criteria to be highlighted on the new performance labels is the external rolling noise caused by the tyres, with the dB (A) clearly marked and given a rating of 1 - 3 based on weather it's quiet, average or loud.

All though these are not the only criteria one should consider before the purchase of their new tyres they do go some way to allowing customers to make a more informed decision.

There's more than you Think Riding on those Tyres: A Quality Tyre at a Quality Price

It’s easy to forget how important it is to have a quality tyre on our cars and commercial vehicles and with research suggesting that 1200 of the deaths on UK roads in 2010 were caused by accidents as a result of bad tyres it’s imperative to remember exactly what it is that’s riding on them!

With the UK tightening their purse strings it’s easy to see why consumers make the decision to opt for a budget tyre rather than a premium one: Fortunately though with a vast array of manufacturers offering a variety of tyres a safe yet affordable option is always available.

Knowing what make of tyre is most suitable for your commercial vehicle is just the first part, finding a company that can supply and fit it at a reasonable price can be a tricky process, having said that when a company offers exceptional service and an outstanding price it inspires additional confidence with their customers.

With the need for a certain amount of finesse when carrying out the maintenance and servicing on today's modern vehicles, local business C.P. Davidson & sons Ltd of Lyons Lane, Chorley has built their reputation on the design and manufacture, service, parts and sales of commercial vehicles. Meaning they are in an excellent position to satisfy the ever growing demand of their customers.

Priding themselves on their outstanding levels of quality CPD have managed the comprehensive servicing and maintenance for hundreds of commercial vehicle owners, and amongst other things their tyres; having not had the facility to fit the tyres themselves; outsourcing the fitting to a variety of other companies.

Always intending to convert some of their workshop space into a dedicated tyre bay it appears that, this time has arrived. Speaking with operations director Robert Davidson he confirmed; "Outsourcing the fitting has always been a temporary measure, and as part of our ongoing commitment to customer service we have always planned to manage the complete process on site".

Now that CPD have set aside the space and ordered the equipment it appears that this plan is soon to be a reality. Fully equipped to comprehensively manage their customers tyre needs and confident that they can, CPD are looking to supply owners of motor vehicles and not just those operating light and heavy commercial.

Believing that a quality tyre at a quality price needs a quality touch CPD are fully committed to this new venture and have invested heavily into the latest lever-less tyre machine technology, combine this with their low price guarantee and CPD hope that the local community of Chorley and it's surrounding areas will take full advantage.

"...Of course its not just about generating new business, being able to manage existing customer full tyre needs from one site is something that pleases us very much", continued Robert Davidson.

As tyre specialists CPD talk to their customers helping them make the right choice for their vehicle and by working with the tyre manufacturers direct has meant that CPD can source any make of tyre for any size of vehicle, whether it's a car, van, truck or anything in-between and at the lowest possible price to the customer.
