Strength in Numbers: The True Power of a Buying Group

When it comes to supplying aftermarket parts for the commercial vehicle industry there are a few very important factors to ensure resounding success; a competitive price, a quick and efficient supply and the support of industry leading brands.

However the ability to maintain this level of service whilst championing quality is no small feet and is a practice reserved strictly for the elite.

Unfortunately then, its common place in today's market for lots of companies to make claims about being the "best", yet the reality is often quite different. It is for this reason that dedicated buying groups exist; their role to over see and ensure continually high levels of quality and workmanship as well as quick and accurate delivery and distribution, ensuring their members can confidently declare: "We are the best and this is why"!

And being the best doesn't mean being the cheapest, a common misconception with some less-reliable aftermarket parts providers; who opt for products made from inferior materials that don't go through any form of quality testing.

It is a reassurance then to see that some companies still like to do things properly and when your list of supplier’s spans over 70 internationally recognisable brands covering 30 different product groups your customers can rest assured that every part they purchase really is the best! Sourcing parts direct from the manufacturer also means savings can be passed onto the customer, certainly granting bragging rights to the "We are the best" claim whilst bringing new meaning to the phrase "Strength in Numbers".

It is fitting then that the newest member of the UK's fastest growing buying group; the United Aftermarket Network is Lancashire based commercial vehicle manufacturer C.P. Davidson & Sons Ltd, who have over 50 years experience built on a reputation of quality service.

Having seen massive growth in their parts department over the last two years CPD have moved from offering only the internal sales of parts to their own 600+ strong hire fleet to a fully comprehensive department that stock over 6000 lines.

Now a member of the United Aftermarket Network, CPD are looking forward to working with a number of global aftermarket parts manufacturers and suppliers in order to provide their customers with the best possible prices and the best possible products.

RCV Owners - Helping to Reduce your Carbon Footprint

The last 10 years have seen a massive increase in companies across the UK taking responsibility for their environmental impact.

With one of the major contributors to greenhouse gasses and CO2 emissions in the UK being the waste management industry there is a lot of pressure on local authorities. Who are expected to increase recycling whilst diverting larger and larger quantities of waste from landfill; leaving very little time left for the consideration of other sustainable options.

Whilst the positive impact of this increased pressure has resulted in authorities working more closely within their constituencies in order to help build a better understanding of the impact waste producers are having on the sustainability of the environment.

The challenge then is to start thinking outside the box and opting for greener and more efficient products. In order to aid these local authorities and private businesses in reducing the industries overall carbon footprint CPD feels that everyone should be playing their part, including the vehicle manufacturers.

Believing there are a number of ways in which manufacturers can and should be integrating the latest green technology into all their vehicles CPD are committed to investing both time and money into the research and development of this area.

Within their workshop it is the development and integration of green systems like the "Eco-Optimiser" that are proving most beneficial. This particular system for example lowers the engine speed and compaction cycle time; whilst still maintaining full bin lift operation. By producing an engine speed no greater than 1000rpm the Eco-Optimiser creates an immediate reduction in fuel consumption (up to 25%), subsequently, drastically reducing the vehicles polluting co2 emissions.

Combine this green technology with products such as the new CPD LE-SPLIT bin lift which has an average power consumption of 3kw and a maximum consumption of only 5.2kw and it's possible to see where a positive affect on the industries carbon footprint begins.

By ensuring all their vehicles are designed to deliver the most efficient operation possible CPD can remove any un-necessary processes, speeding up collection rounds; which in turn reduces the amount of time and energy the vehicles spend on the road.

The other benefit of reducing vehicles fuel consumption and CO2 emissions is it results in a product that runs smoother and quieter, thus also reducing its noise pollution making it a much sought after solution to city centre collection.

Although C.P. Davidson already offer options like their Eco-Optimiser to all their customers and continue to make a conscious effort to further develop sustainable and environmentally friendly products, they are well aware that they won̢۪t have the same measurable impact that diverting waste from landfill will.

What CPD do believe and put into practice every day though, is the importance of ensuring that all their vehicles produced for the industry have as little impact on the environment as possible; hoping one day that all other manufacturers will follow suit.
